MEDICINE IN GEORGIA - A WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITIES

Georgia is a beautiful country situated in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. The capital and largest city of the country is Tbilisi.

The country enjoys a pleasant climate throughout the year, not exceeding 20-25 degree celcius in summers, providing a suitable environment for studying and daily activities. It also is now a favourite holiday destination, offering many tourist attractions that appeal to all interests.Tbilisi's Rustaveli Avenue, Narikala Fortress, Stepantsminda and Mount Kazbeg are few of the many places which have attracted international attention.

Having geographical location and the climatic conditions to its advantage, the country has now become one of the preferred destinations for foreign students, a bulk of them from India, to pursue their Medical degree abroad .With many batches already passed, Georgia sees many more new in-coming students every year.

There are many universities offering Medicine in the main cities of the country, all of which are registered medical institutions. Most of the universities are privately owned, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and learning facilities. Universities provide either 5 or 6 year Medical Course leading to a MD degree (Equivalent to undergraduate MBBS degree).

Students need to earn a total of 360 credit points in order to graduate successfully. Currently, most universities provide a 6 years course, in which students score around 60 credit points in a year, but efforts are being taken up to let students earn around 75 credit points in a year so as to decrease the duration of the course to 5 years.

Georgia offers an integrated program for learning medicine, unlike other universities of the world which follow the conventional methods. In the conventional method, the first 2.5-3 years of the course is spent in teaching pre-clinical subjects and the later part of the course offers a clinical exposure, but in the integrated approach followed by Georgia, a few clinical subjects and topics are covered along with their related pre-clinical subjects, providing ground for students to co-relate topics and learn. This way, students can go and start learning at the hospital right from their first year, unlike in other universities.Overall, the students studying here in Georgia enjoy learning because teaching is more clinical oriented rather than classroom oriented.

The students enjoy summer vacations beginning at the end of July and winter vacations beginning in the month of February.

In short, Georgia is a very suitable place for pursuing medicine career abroad, given the climate, the lifestyle and the quality of education.

Georgia has some strict rules and regulations regarding its immigration and visa procedures. Although many Countries enjoy a Visa free arrival in Georgia, you are required to have the entire set of documents, including the health insurance and proof of accommodation for your period of stay in Georgia to ensure a smooth immigration clearance.Since most of the Universities have no accommodation facilities within the campus, it adds up to the complications of getting a Visa. And irrespective of all the strict documentation,if the students wants to apply to a Georgian University to fulfill their dream of becoming a doctor, they need some experienced hands for the smooth application process and preparation of immigration clearance documents.

We at CEECO, represent several universities in Georgia and can guide you well in pursuing your dream. We will take care of all the documentation work and the accommodation near the campus to ensure the smooth process till the students graduate. We always strive for delivering the best service possible. When you are with us, you can be sure of being in safe, experienced hands.

Georgia awaits you!

Notary and Attestation of Degree certificates in China- not a difficult task anymore!

Many of the students after completing their degree confront the silent question in their mind on what are they going to do. Licensing exam, going back home, remaining in China, how to notarize certificates and which postgraduate programmes to apply and the list goes on…

For application into postgraduate program, registering for licensing exams and some work position after school, students will likely be required to submit notarized copies of  their certificates, and in some cases a notarized translated copy would be required if the certificate is issued in a language other than English language. Notarized copies are subsequently attested from Ministry and from the Indian consulate as well.

Such cases becomes very confusing for students about the procedures to follow once they graduate as the form in which documents are received from university may not be sufficient once they return back to India.

Here we are to explain you the step by step document procedures.

Generally, In order to have your documents notarized, you will need to go through four major steps.

-   A public Notary/Local Authority
-   Designated Foreign affairs office
-   Designated Ministry of Education
-   Destination country's Embassy

  • The very first step is to get the certificates like Degree, Graduation, Transcripts and Internship certificate from the University.
  • Once you have your original certificates, you are ready for notarization.
  • At the notary office they would make photocopies of your original documents and also translate into English. After which they would make the photocopied version and the translated version into a booklet with the notary stamp on it.
  • You would also require the photocopy of your passport (front and back), last visa, immigration page and original Passport.
  • The payment for the above procedure depends on the notary office.
  • You will need to take the above mentioned documents to the Ministry of Education, where you will also have to mention the country in which you want to use it for and get the signature and the seal of Ministry of Education.
  • Next, you will need to take this booklet together with your originals to the Designated Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FAO). At the FAO, you would be requested to submit the booklet which you obtained from the Notary office . The FAO will put a "Visa like" seal at the back of the notarized document. This authenticates the Public Notary stamp as original.
  • If you have completed the FAO step, your document is almost done however you still have one more step. This step depends on which country you want to use the documents.
  • The final step for Indian students is to go to Indian Embassy  with all the documents :
o   Notary book and its attested photocopy
o   Original passport and a copy
o   Last visa page and
o   Original certificates.
  • Indian Embassy stamps the “SEEN IN EMBASSY” seal on the Notary book.
  •  After completing these steps your documents are now ready for submission at relevant authorities in India.
  • ·It is important to check available dates and fees for notarization and attestation. You will also be charged at the public notary, FAO and Embassy for their services.

If you wish to work in other countries like UAE, Qatar etc, it has a different procedure to follow. A lot of Indian students are pursuing their higher education in China, particularly MBBS course in Chinese Government Universities. We hope the above information would help you to plan and prepare accordingly. In case you have any queries or require any assistance, feel free to contact us!
Wish you all the best!!

MBBS in China : English Medium or Bilingual Medium of instruction?

Every year a large number of students take up Medical admission in China.More than 250 Universities in China, under the Central Government and Provincial Government are offering admissions to International students for Under-graduate and Post-graduate medical programmes in respective Universities. The number of students from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are particularly more when compared to applicants from other countries for Medical education.

However, when Indian students go through MCI website regarding recognized list of institutions in China offering MBBS course, there are two separate lists updated. The list of Universities offering “ENGLISH MEDIUM MBBS IN CHINA” is only 45 in number, whereas the list of Universities offering “MBBS IN CHINA IN BILINGUAL MEDIUM” is more than 200. There begins the confusion for all the applicants! What is the difference between both these types of institutions, how about their recognition, facilities, etc.,

Medical Council of India updates this list every year, after consulting with respective Indian embassy and in reference to the list published by Ministry of Education in China.  The list for Bilingual MBBS universities is updated by setting in with standards set by MCI itself. The list is updated every year around the month of April or May for universities providing full English medium course. Since the beginning, the number of eligible universities have decreased and as of now, there is about 45 universities recognized for English medium MBBS course in China; some universities which were previously on the list are now deemed ineligible as the list is updated. Weifang University, Dali University, Jiamusi University, Hebei United University are few examples of Universities that lost its place in the English Medium MBBS list approved by Medical Council of India.

The process of updating is based on yearly evaluation of universities by Ministry of Education (China) since 2013. The ministry prepares a final list of universities meeting the required standards and is forwarded to the Indian Embassy and thereby sent to the Medical Council of India. Along with the name of the University, number of seat allocated for foreign students in respective universities are also mentioned in the MCI website. Interestingly, the number of seats is not listed in the website since 2017.

There are a lot of changes between the Course pattern, duration of course, teaching and other aspects of English medium MBBS and Bi-Lingual Clinical Medicine course; So right now it cannot be considered like earlier that every Medical course done by foreign students in China has a uniform pattern.

We will be back explaining and looking more into the differences between the two courses and what the student will experience or gain by taking up the respective course in coming articles. This article was to convey the fact that every medical course in China is not the same and there is more to consider while choosing a University to pursue Medical education in China. Follow us for more updates…

What is HSK Test? How important is HSK for MBBS students in China?

HSK is an examination conducted by ‘Han Ban’, a non-governmental organization to test Chinese language proficiency. It is equivalent to tests like IELTS and TOEFEL conducted for English language. Most educational institutes running both in China and abroad take HSK qualification as the criterion for Chinese language proficiency. The examination is conducted in certain levels ranging from level 1 to level 6 of increasing difficulties with HSK level 6 examination being the highest qualification; a person can attempt any level as per will without the need to clear former levels.

As of now, most Universities, offering MBBS  in China, in particular,  demand the clearance of HSK level 3 examination in order to complete their respective courses and attain graduation. Recently in some Medical universities the bar is set at the clearance of HSK level 4 examination.

The examination is conducted in 3 parts: - Listening, Reading and Writing; results are published in a percentile basis. There is also some commotions on introducing Medical HSK examinations in China and we cannot ‘unsee’ the possible chance of the examination being announced compulsory for foreign medical graduates in coming years, according to sources.

The other benefit of having an HSK certificate is that, at present there are plenty of universities providing scholarships of various range for courses like Masters and PHD even ones that cover the whole course. This being stated, having an HSK Level 4 or 5 clearance certificate along with other certificates automatically puts the candidate in a better position to be deemed eligible.

Apart from HSK, YCT (Youth Chinese Test) is introduced by ‘Han Ban’ for school going students. It’s basically taught by conducting certain educational activities and basic language classes for students. The main agenda behind the examination is to improve language learning skills in students.

Another exam is HSKK, this examination solely concentrates on colloquial skills. HSKK clearance certificates are demanded by certain firms who look into the Chinese speaking skills of the person. Recently people are seen applying for HSKK alongside HSK examination as well.

Yet another examination is BCT (Business Chinese Test). Being the business hub China is, this examination is for people in business relations with China and the curriculum is prepared accordingly. There are respective books available for all the examinations above stating the curriculum and study materials within.

Students from Guangxi Medical University with HSK Certificate.
One of the prime reasons for opening Chinese language Academy at CEECO is to  assist  Indian students  aspiring to do further studies in China to prepare  for the HSK examinations which is a compulsory requirement in most universities. Students can take up long-term, short-term or weekly courses according to convenience and prepare for the examinations. Yet another advantage is that CEECO is also an authorized examination center for conducting HSK examinations. This sees that students can prepare at the facility and also give examinations from the same place making it more convenient.
Chinese teachers and students at Ceeco Chinese Language Academy.
Chinese Government in order to propagate Chinese language has set up test centers in many countries all over the world. India has in total seven test centers and CEECO Chinese Language Academy is one among them as mentioned earlier and the only one in the state of Kerala. Seeing the increasing demand for such centers in India, CEECO plans to set up more sub centers in different parts of the country with a unified curriculum.
Students who attended HSK exam in Aug 2017at Ceeco Chinese Language Academy.
CEECO Language Academy is authorized to conduct all of the tests stated above (HSK level (1-6), HSKK, BCT, YCT) providing examination oriented coaching alongside. Since the institute is authorized directly by ‘Han Ban”, we are constantly updated by the authorities about scholarship schemes and openings in fields such as Medicine, Engineering, Hotel Management, Business studies or tourism management.  Interested people are warmly welcomed to enquirer the whereabouts and we will always be happy to serve you.
